Waste Operations business overview
We treat wastewater for a huge area and have 13 million customers. It's our job to ensure sewage is safely transported through our pipe network, thoroughly treated at one of our 349 sewage works and recycled to the environment.
That's a major reponsibility, which encompasses carefully controlling the quality of treated effluent we discharge to watercourses and maintaing our sewer network to ensure its contents flow smoothly. We also need to monitor closely the waste released into our sewers by industrial customers, and to ensure that local residents ae not unwittingly discharging domestic waste into rivers and streams.
In addition, our wastewater operations involve creating green energy. A number of our sewage works generate heat and power as a by-product of the treatment process, which can then be used on site. In fact, we're the biggest producer of renewable energy within the M25.
Wherever you work in our team, you'll have a part to play in protecting the environment, managing a huge network and ensuring we meet we meet stringent regulations. It's a dirty job, but we're proud to do it.
