Water Operations business overview

Providing 2,600 million litres of tap water ever day for London and the Thames Valley is a major undertaking - and it's a challenge that's not getting easier.

We provide the best-quality tap water in England and Wales, but in the years to come we face a growing population, climate change and increasing usage per person.

So we'll have to find more water to meet the growing demands of our customers, and at the same time we need to ensure we protect the environment by not taking too much water from local rivers and underground sources.

We're at the cutting edge of research in this area, and are building a desalination plant in east London which will remove salt from water taken from the Thames. That means we'll have more to go round during times of high demand, such as a drought.

At the same time, we're making the most of what we've got by replacing our oldest and leakiest pipework, particularly in London, where we've already renewed more than 600 miles of water mains.

Our Water Operations team encompasses all of these challenges. It offers a wide variety of roles, from running and maintaining our water treatment works to ensuring our supply network is in good working order.

You could be hunting out the underground leaks buried beneath the capital's busy streets or taking samples from our huge supply network to ensure standards are kept at their highest.

With over 8 million cusotmers, including some of the region's biggest businesses, it's a high-profile job, but one that brings huge rewards.
